Written at Lac Petit-Cayamant. I originally wrote it for my husband to sing, but now I sing it. I used to call it my Tragically Hip song as it reminded me of the Hip's style.

Lyrics

40 Foot Shadow
at 4 in the afternoon
It's the 2nd of November
Now I'll have some room
On my shoulders, they're still tired
I hauled a heavy load
But it's the 2nd of November
shadow's 48 feet high

I got no house
I took a loss
I gave it all away
I still give away my money
I live day to day
Head's barely above water
Sometimes I still can't breathe
Yet I feel a litter lighter
I feel peace and ease
Cause it's the 2nd of November
Winter's coming soon
I got a 48 foot shadow
at 4 in the afternoon

First think I look upward
Sky's deep azure blue touching
Hemlock and the balsam
Grounds me keeps me true
Through it all I kept my soul
I even kept some pride
Now and then I'm shaky
In this life that is our ride
It's the 2nd of November
I can say I'm feeling fine
I got a 48 foot shadow

It's the 2nd of November
I used to feel so low
I got a 48 foot shadow
A 48 foot shadow

It's the 2nd of November
I used to feel so small
I got a 48 foot shadow
Now I'm 48 feet tall
